The Olive Oil District
Bonolio Olive Oil Company was born in 1934 in Agrigento, Sicily. For more than half a century it has succeeded in turning the passsion for traditional Extra Virgin Olive Oil with a balanced and healthy nourishment into a very impressive reality, within the entire sicilian area. Today the Bonolio Olive Oil factory includes the biggest oil-mill in Sicily.
Bonolio company's establishment is in Sciacca, Sicily, which is famous for its agricultural vocation, perfect for the cultivation of high quality olives, Its land contains several superior varieties used for the production of very precious oil. We refer to different olive varieties such as Biancolilla, Nocellara del Belice and Cerasuola, from which excellent oils are produced, to satisfy every palate's request to join in the love of this unique product.
Sciacca is a town and comune in the province of Agrigento on the southwestern coast of Sicily. Sciacca dates back to the Roman Empire and was respected for its spas. Close to Agrigento is one of Sicily's most famous historical attractions, the Valley of The Temples. It consists of eight temples built between about 510BC and 430BC. The Temple of Concordia is the best conserved among all because it was transformed into a church. Agrigento has many culinary specialities including Sarde a Beccafico, fresh sardines filled with breadcrumbs, pine nuts, raisins and sultanas, skewered and then grilled. Favara is an Easter cake typical of Agrigento made in the shape of a lamb, coated with marzipan and filled with a pistacchio paste.
